Reading Gives Back in Many Ways
Thanksgiving is more than an annual holiday at Maple Bear.
We take the essence of Thanksgiving to the next level by integrating the art of giving back into our school ethos and practice it all year round, not just in November.
Giving back is key to making sure our students understand that acts of generosity not only helps others, but also creates a sense of inner happiness and purpose.
Maple Bear Dallas Fort-Worth Embodies Giving Back
Through our quality educational programming, we make sure we support the growth of our kids to be good local and global citizens. We get inspired about finding creative and unique ways to build this sense of community and contribution.
This year, we came up with the 21 Day Literacy Challenge as our community contribution activity.
In September 2019, our Dallas Fort Worth schools hosted a literacy challenge, encouraging students and their families to read every day for 21 days.
And we took the opportunity to turn the event into an act of kindness.
We wanted to make sure we made an impact both at the local and international level.
The challenge was a way to encourage reading in the home while helping another school in need.
So, with every social media share of a child reading, we donated a book!
In neighboring Denton, we brought our books to Tomás Rivera Elementary School. We were greeted by their principal, Marvyn C. White, who was thrilled to receive the books.

Then in December, Spanish language books will be delivered and donated to the FundaMaya Preschool in Guatemala, with a big thanks to Linda Cotton, the CEO of Action Alliance International, who will be presenting the books on our behalf.

We are so grateful to our wonderful Dallas community for taking part in our challenge. We were thrilled with the success and we look forward to doing it again.
