Daycare & Preschool Programs Offered

The Maple Bear curriculum is designed to intentionally deliver specific learning outcomes. These will help your child to progressively develop intellectually and acquire early literacy capabilities as well as critical thinking skills.  Your child will be fully prepared to enter kindergarten having mastered the social and educational markers deemed necessary for success by the Arizona Department of Education early learning standards.  These milestones include your child’s ability to verbally express their thoughts and needs, the ability to follow routine and direction, and a desire to learn.

Children will also develop physically, creatively, socially and emotionally. All teacher actions are based upon thoughtful purpose and are not simply random activity.  We are able to accomplish this in an atmosphere that honors children’s interests and differences.

We offer programs for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old:

Bear Care Infant Care 1 & 2…. 6 Weeks to 12 Months

Bear Care 3 & 4…. 12 months to 24 months

Toddler Program …………………. 2-3 years

Preschool ……………………………… 3-4 years

Junior Kindergarten ……………. 4-5 years

*Please note that all our programs are full time, we do not offer part-time programs.
Bear Care (Infants 6 weeks – 24 months)

Strong positive attachments are critical! For healthy growth, learning and development to occur, infants must feel a bond and an attachment to the primary adults in their lives. Nurturing and maintaining these relationships is a primary focus in the Bear Care program. Daily communications between parents and teachers are of paramount importance for the care and development of the infant.

The environment is a key component to Bear Care. The environment (space and schedule) is also a “teacher.” Calm and comforting settings with pleasant and predictable routines nurture trust and safety for the child. Looking at the space and the flow of the day through the eyes of the infant ensures that what is being provided is appropriate and supportive.

A responsive curriculum is used. Aside from fixed points in the program day such as arriving, leaving and caregiving times, the schedule and rhythm of the day will be determined by the needs of the individual infants. Milestone development is continually assessed along with assessment in the five domains– physical, cognitive, communication, emotional and social. Planned activities are according to the differential needs of infants. A portfolio of progress for each infant is provided to parents.

Toddlers (2 – 3 years old)

Maple Bear teachers understand that young children are naturally effective learners if they are allowed to explore, discover, experiment, pretend and create in play-based environments. Teachers therefore plan and provide activities and experiences that nurture and develop these natural learning responses. At this age, teachers begin to provide Small Group activities that consist of Theme Learning Centers. Large group activities consist of Coming Together (Circle Time). Free Choice Play areas are introduced for this age level and gross motor activities such as music and movement and outdoor play are also a big part of the toddler day. Parents receive a termly assessment report.

Preschool (3 – 4 years old)

Here at our preschool facility in Tempe, Arizona, you will see children being active, both physically and mentally. They are engaged in a variety of learning areas or centers with activities and experiences that are meaningful and interesting to them. You will see children using all their senses to explore and discover through engaging hands-on activities linked to theme topics. Children of this age are encouraged to learn to make connections with past experiences and current learning. Integrating topics with skill development helps the children make sense of the world and their learning. Parents receive a termly assessment report.

Junior Kindergarten (4 – 5 years old)

Learning centers are a big part of the Junior Kindergartener’s day, as children at this age level still need to manipulate, explore, and experiment with real objects to cement their learning. Greater emphasis begins to be placed on English language arts, mathematics, and science and technology, while continuing to educate the whole child, physically, emotionally, and socially. Unique to other programs, Maple Bear provides differential learning through diverse learning styles and stages of development are respected at all times. Parents receive a termly assessment report.
